FAQ

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE
FOR YOUR JEWELRY?

I create my jewelry in two different media, porcelain and birch wood.

My porcelain jewelry–earrings, pins, and pendants– are fired several times. Ceramics offers a wide range of possibilities for color derived from glazes. I formulate my own glazes for range of colors inspired by nature. The precious metals–24-karat gold, and white gold –are applied before the last firing to accent and infuse each piece with a lustrous finish. The necklaces are often reversible, and are direct impression of driftwood or stones from Gros Morne National Park, a World Heritage Site, in Newfoundland. I incorporate semi-precious stones to my necklaces. The findings are in Sterling Silver, Gold-filled, Vermeil, and Bronze. Ear wires in gold or clipons can be special ordered.

I create my reversible, marbled birch earrings by shaping the wood and marbling them on both sides using acrylic paint in a technique called Ebru. Ebru in Turkish is the ancient technique of “painting on Water”. Acrylic paint is used to create an image on a liquid bath. The floating painting is transferred to the shapes created in birch wood, a printing process similar to creating a monotype; thus, each ebru is a one of a kind print.

These earrings are double-sided and therefore reversible. They are as light as a feather, featuring a different abstract painting on each side. Each piece is shellacked for durability.

To wear them on the reverse side, carefully slide them out of the ear wire and reinsert them from the reverse side. Please wear/leave the included rubber stoppers on the wires at all times.

The ear wires are Sterling Silver. Necklaces have sterling silver or 14k gold-filled chain as components.

How do I care for my jewelry?

I recommend packing earrings and necklaces in a separate box from other jewelry when traveling to avoid scratching or damage. All birch jewelry are finished with a protective clear sealer, however they are not waterproof and repeated or prolonged exposure to water will damage the finish. Jewelry and accessories should be removed before showering or swimming. Store in a dry place.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! You can purchase gift certificates in any amount. Typical birch jewelry prices for gift amounts to consider are, $48, $56, $60, $65 and $70. The prices for porcelain jewelry are in $45-$450 range.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes! If you’re looking for particular bird sculpture, unique bridal party gifts, or something else, I’d love to talk.

When will I get my order? All item represented on the online store leave the studio in 3 business days. Items that are made to order will ship when completed. Please remember this doesn’t include shipping time, which will vary by destination and the shipping method you choose at check out. Need something immediately? Contact me before placing an order and I’ll do my best to meet your deadline.

How do you install the bird sculptures?

The bird sculptures are wall reliefs.  Though not an exact likeness of the feathered creatures, they aims to capture the spirit of the bird they represent. They are hallow so you can place a positive message inside, imbuing them with a wish or a good thought for you or the recipient of the gift, there by making the gift a keepsake.

For installation use a dry wall nail. If need be, employing a second nail to establish the desired orientation of the sculpture on the wall.  For maximum security, nails should be driven in an angle similar to that of picture hangers. I have found placing them on a window, or door frame very successful.

Do you offer gift packaging?

All my jewelry items are shipped in a gift box. For all orders I include a gift receipt only, which doesn’t show the pricing, so orders can be sent directly to the recipient.
